Over the past three decades, Irma Trujillo has been a bilingual and reading intervention teacher, principal, director of bilingual education, and instructional specialist. Much of her work has been focused on raising student achievement through restructuring processes that utilize research-based approaches and data-driven instruction. Programs under her direction have been recognized at the state and national levels for the academic success of ELL students.

Session description
This session presents teachers with a clear understanding of authentic Spanish word features, discusses a tool for word study assessment developed for a New Mexico school district, and provides resources to assist teachers in their efforts to implement a Spanish word study program for elementary students.
