1-day Response to Intervention Forum explored the components of a
comprehensive literacy model as an RTI approach and examine a framework
and process for implementation, assessment, and improvement. (February
8, 2010) District
superintendents and school principals will focus on developing a
comprehensive literacy curriculum to accelerate student progress and
eliminate the achievement gap in an Administrators' Institute September 27-28, 2010, in Washington, DC.
RTI Information Initiative Scholarship and Grant Opportunities Professional Development Assistance to Teachers provided professional
development grants to 25 active Reading Recovery teachers to attend the
2010 National Reading Recovery & K–6 Classroom Literacy Conference
in Columbus, Ohio. A
Training Initiative Package provided funds in partnership with
universities to prepare knowledgeable Reading Recovery teacher
educators. The package provided money to assist two faculty
members with tuition, fees, books, and residency costs for the 1-year
training program. Cost-Effectiveness Research Analysis
Evaluation
of a 2-year study comparing the effectiveness of one-to-one vs.
small-group instruction will bring new information and understanding of
the cost-effectiveness implications of teacher-student ratio. Group
sizes of 1:2, 1:3, and 1:5 were studied. Effective Literacy Practices Video Library
Web-based professional development modules provide extensive
examples of effective literacy practices used by Reading Recovery and classroom
teachers. Each of the six modules includes a short video and a 2-page downloadable
reference guide. The video library will help K-3 teachers, Reading Recovery
teachers, literacy coaches, and school administrators explore effective
teaching.
