Session description
Small-group work can be a powerful tool to meet the individual needs of all learners. Smart decision making must take place, however, to meet the needs of several students at once. Speakers will present ideas for planning a small-group lesson while still paying close attention to individual readers. Topics will include choosing a focus for small-group instruction based upon assessment needs, forming groups, taking observational notes, selecting appropriate texts, creating opportunities for talk, and supporting the reading AND language development of English language learners.
